Name the muscles of adductor compartment of thigh and their nerve supply.

Muscles of adductor compartment of thigh and their nerve supply are as follows:
Gracilis – Anterior division of obturator nerve
Adductor longus – Anterior division of obturator nerve
Adductor brevis – Usually by anterior division of obturator nerve
Adductor magnus – Is a composite muscle (adductor part by posterior division of obturator nerve and Ischial part by tibial part of sciatic nerve)
Obturator externus – Posterior division of obturator
Pectineus – Is a composite muscle, therefore supplied by two nerves i.e femoral and anterior division of obturator nerve.

Muscles of medial compartment of thigh

Write the origin, insertion and action of muscles of medial compartment of thigh

MuscleOriginInsertionAction
Gracilis Medial margin of body of pubis and adjoining ischio-pubic ramus.Upper part of medial surface of shaft of tibiaHip Joint: Adducts thigh
Knee joint: extension of leg
Adductor longusBody of pubis, medial to pubic tubercleMedial lip of linea asperaHip joint : Adducts thigh and assists in lateral rotation
Adductor brevis Body of pubis and inferior ramus of pubis From base of lesser trochanter to medial lip of linea aspera ( lateral to pectineus)Hip joint : Adducts thigh and assists in lateral rotation
Adductor magnusExternal surface of ischio-pubic ramus and inferolateral part of ischial tuberosity.Medial margin of gluteal tuberosity, medial lip of linea aspera, medial supracondylar line and adductor tubercle. adductor tubercle of femur Hip joint:
Adductor part- Adducts thigh and assists in lateral rotation
Hamstring part- extends thigh at hip join
Obturator externusOuter surface of obturator membrane and ischio-pubic ramusTrochanteric fossa on medial surface of greater trochanterLaterally rotates thigh at hip joint
