 What are the Parts of External Nose?

Parts of external nose are:

  • Root of the nose- at the junction of nose with forehead.
  • Tip of nose- lower free end.
  • Dorsum of nose – rounded border between tip and root of nose.
  • Ala of nose- rounded eminence on lateral aspect of nostril.
  • Nostrils- anterior nasal openings.
  • Columella of nose- inferior margin of nasal septum separating nostrils.

 Framework of external nose is made up of bones in the upper part and cartilages in the lower part.

Upper bony part is made up of:

  • Nasal process of frontal bone
  • Right and left nasal bones.
  • Frontal process of right and left maxillae.

Lower cartilaginous part is made up of:

  • Right and left lateral cartilages.
  • Right and left major and minor alar cartilage.
