Describe formation and branches of superficial and deep palmar arches.
Superficial Palmar Arch
- is formed mainly by by the superficial palmar branch of the ulnar artery(on medial side) and contribution from one of the branches of radial artery ( lateral side).
- It lies deep to palmar aponeurosis and superficial to long flexor tendons and lumbricals.
- It gives four digital branches:
- 1st proper digital branch to the medial side of little finger.
- 2nd, 3rd, and 4th common digital branches, each then divides into proper digital arteries for adjacent sides of little and ring fingers, ring and middle finger, middle and index fingers respectively.
- The thumb and the lateral side of index finger are supplied by the pinceps pollicis and radialis indicis branches of radial artery.
Deep palmar Arch
- It is formed mainly by the radial artery which anastomosis with the deep branch of ulnar artery.
- It lies deep to the long flexor tendons.
- It gives following branches:
- Three palmar metacarpal arteries which join the common digital branches from superficial palmar arch.
- Three proximal perforating arteries which anastomose with dorsal metacarpal arteries.
- Three distal perforating arteries which connect the palmar digital branches with dorsal metacarpal arteries.
