What are the Boundaries of Temporal Fossa?
Temporal region is on the lateral aspect of skull above the zygomatic arch up to the superior temporal line. Temporal fossa forms the floor of this region. Its boundaries are:
- Superiorly it is bonded by superior temporal line.
- Inferiorly it is limited by the upper border of zygomatic arch.
- Anteriorly it is bounded by temporal surface of zygomatic bone and the frontal process of zygomatic bone.
- Posteriorly it is limited by posterior part of superior temporal line and supramastoid crest.
- Floor is formed by the four Bones (frontal, parietal , sphenoid, temporal).
What are the Contents of Temporal Fossa?
Contents of temporal fossa are:
- Temporalis Muscle
- Deep temporal nerves (branches of anterior division of mandibular nerve)
- Deep temporal vessels (arteries are branches of 2nd part of maxillary artery)
- Superficial temporal vessels(artery is branch of external carotid artery)
- Auriculotemporal nerve (branch of posterior division of mandibular nerve)
- Zygomaticotemporal nerve (branch of maxillary nerve)
- Temporal branch of facial nerve.
